barnet-carbon® - Tailor-made recycled carbon fiber solutions
Our recycled precision fibers, which we produce specifically for compounding, are post-industrial carbon fibers. These residues, which are left over from the production process or do not make their way into the originally intended production process for various other reasons, still have a lot of potential that we exploit and improve in a targeted manner.
Our approach here is not only to change the shape from yarn to short-cut fiber, but above all to refine it, which we do in the production facility we developed a good year ago in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Here, the fibers are coated with a thermoplastic sizing that is individually tailored to the final matrix. Depending on the end application, for example with polyurethane, polyamide or polyimide.
With this finishing process, we achieve an improved feeding behavior of the fibers as well as a significantly improved mixability. In the compounding process, the thermoplastic sizing in the extruder becomes soft, helps to spread the fibers apart and ensures an even distribution of the fibers in the compound.
As an alternative to the ever-increasing quantities of virgin carbon fibers required, we offer a sustainable solution that does not have to hide from virgin fibers in terms of performance. The CO2 footprint is also many times smaller with our recycled fibers and thus offers great advantages for sustainable product development.
Carbon is undisputedly one of the raw materials of the future and, thanks to its exceptional mechanical properties, enables significant material and weight savings in many applications.
In addition to the carbon fiber products mentioned above, we also supply recycled para-aramid fibers for use in coumpounding applications.
